The Sebastian House is the designated site for the Sebastian Medical Museum. This English Tudor Revival style dwelling was built in 1928. It is located at the corner of Benbow Road and East Washington Street in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Sebastian House was named for its original owners, the late Dr. Simon Powell Sebastian and his wife Martha Sebastian.
The Sebastian Medical Museum commemorates the success of Dr. Sebastian as well as countless others connected with the establishment of L. Richardson Memorial Hospital. The focus of the Sebastian House is to be a historical site where the general public can observe the dreams and visions contributed by African-American doctors and nurses to the Greensboro Community. The entire historical area consists of the Sebastian House and Garden, Grace Lutheran Church and L. Richardson Memorial Hospital. This historical triangle will serve as a live memorial of the success stories and contributions of African-American men and women in the Greensboro Community.
The Sebastian Medical Museum is a unique exhibit of artifacts detailing the history of L. Richardson Memorial Hospital and its founders. Visitors will see and hear the crowning achievements African-Americans made in the field of medicine. More importantly, its goal is to inspire and motivate children to dream and achieve by observing and learning of the rich history of their ancestors.
